Skiworld Photoshoot

I have to say there's a lot to be said for getting paid to do what you love - and my record so far is pretty good all in all.

I had 4 days working as photographer for Skiworld, the largest independent ski company in the UK (nice plug eh...!) shooting for their brochure, website and other publicity. Now the issue was that it hadn't really snowed properly since Christmas so before departure my fingers were crossed that the marketing manager had organised a dump of snow!

And congratulations Anne, you did it! And more to the point, snow before the visit and then 3 days of sunshine to go with the snow. Brilliant. (and PHEW!)

So here it is, a brief selection of photos from the shoot. Another hard day at the office...

So keep an eye out in the new brochure this summer and on the website for some more of my work!

Cambridge Nights...

Sometimes it's just good to wander around with the camera and see what happens. These shots were taken yesterday in Cambridge just after the sun had gone down, tripod in hand and with timer shutter release to save shake...

Old Age creeping up?

At what point do you decide to spend a Saturday wandering around some good old British gardens in snowdrop season and then visit a famous cathedral?

At about 34 years old it seems. My mother would be proud of me. My older brother will be embarrassed to say he understands my situation. My little sister would laugh and Emilie just has to accept she's living with an Older Man.

After moving to Cambridge recently I have spent quite a lot of time being a tourist in my new City. Punting, wandering round the wonderful old town, touring the colleges and hosting visitors. It was time to get out and about while I still had some weekends free and see what the area had to offer for the older generation.

It was snowdrop season and the privately owned Chippenham Park Gardens were open for one of a few annual weekends. I felt there was a good chance that we could go along and lower the average age of visitors by at least a decade.

Gardens filled with interesting sculptures, forest walks, secret paths and fields of snowdrops. And at the end of the visit we went to the Yurt for tea and cake. And we weren't even the youngest there. Another couple had brought their grandchildren....

And then on to Ely, the famous cathedral town. A quick wander round the town and then a cathedral visit including - wait for it - a tower tour! Actually, I joke but it was really interesting (and we (well, I) were only about average age for this one...) It never ceases to amaze me how old some buildings in the UK are - Ely cathedral that stands today was sarted a thousand years ago.

So there it was, a day in the life of Tim Burton when not working at the weekends. Priceless.

And this just made me laugh...

Skiing in the Tetons

Work then Play, that's what I say.

On my way home from Antarctica I stopped in the USA for a little back country skiing in and around the Teton National Park staying with Kevin (other mountaineer with the Fosdicks crew) and his wife, Kate.

You definitely earn your turns - for every hour skinning up the hill you probably get around 2/3 minutes of descent if it's straightforward. You could say you need to enjoy the ups as much as the downs.

Wow. I've visited before and this visit didn't disappoint either. I think they've got it sorted in so many ways - a very cute little house in a young and active community of mountain people alongside the teton national park.

Location, location, location....

Anyway, a week passed by quickly skiing in good old USA powder. Mustn't grumble! Thanks so much K&K for being brilliant hosts - and for taking my money at poker... ;-)
