Cairngorm expedition

A week in the Cairngorms in fine weather, crazy skies and swim-in-the-plunge pool heat meant the compact camera went along for the ride. Here's a few snaps from the week...

A wee bothy in the Feshie Valley.

It says "Geldie Lodge" on the map but the spa wasn't working and the bar was shut. Shame.

Crazy skies!

A nosy reindeer comes over for a sniff...

The campsite is on the green patch in the foreground.

Loch Einoch on the north side of the Cairngorms above Aviemore with a burn rushing down the valley sides surrounded by lush green vegetation. A gorgeous week and a nice fix of green before heading back to Greenland tomorrow!

Lucy and Allan

A beautiful day in the Peak District for the wedding of Allan and Lucy Kirkman at Hargate Hall. Stunning location, toasty warm and lots of fun!

And no one was expecting the waiting staff to suddenly break into the most amazing live Opera. These guys were shockingly good!

3 Yorkshire Peaks

On the ascent of Pen y Ghent

A brilliant day out in the green and pleasant land of the Yorkshire Dales - stunning views, lovely weather and the 3 highest "peaks" in the county to bag in one day. Pen y Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough - 26 miles, 1800 metres of ascent and a lot of sunshine (and food and drink!)

The team - Kristian, me, Sarah and Hannah

There were 4 starters and 3 finishers - my little sister couldn't quite make the last peak, looks like the strict pre-walk training regime didn't materialise! ;-) Oh well, there was a convenient pub to drop her in as we walked by for the last one.

The Ribbleshead Viaduct

After Pen y Ghent there's a long slog across the rolling hills below towards Whernside past the Ribbleshead Viaduct. This is probably the worst bit of the challenge as it's just that - a SLOG.

Across the ridge of Whernside

On the top the views are stunning and you get a real feel for the distance between the peaks (especially how far it is to the car in the distance!)

The last one - Ingleborough. The most stunning of the three in my opinion with the sun low in the sky, the whispy clouds aloft and team member number four in the pub!

Ingleborough is the most amazing landscape and this photo doesn't do it justice - moonscape meets limestone meets crazy rock formations. Awesome. A great day out if you're looking for a bit of a walking challenge but don't want the logistics and driving madness of the National 3 Peaks challenge (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon).

Cheers guys for a brilliant and entertaining day :-)
